My garage door is broke. I had to open and shut it manually to get my car out and when it closed it came down like a guillotine. According to the smart-ass garage door repair man, I shouldn't have done this. Anywho...I 'm trying to get an idea of how much a repair like this should cost. The coil/spring is broken and those tension wires on each side aren't functioning. Can anybody help?
It is a Genie Blue Max. Using the garage door remote opener, there are NO problems opening the garage. OTOH, I have problems closing the garage door. I cannot close the garage door using the remote control; it just hums. If I push the button mounted on the wall of the garage, I cannot just push it and walk away (before I could). I have to HOLD the button down until the garage door is completely shut.
How to repair (do it yourself) a garage door opener with a stripped drive gear. This is a common repair in Sears, Craftsman, Liftmaster, and Chamberlain chain drive garage door openers. If yours runs but the chain does not move and the door won't go up, this may be what you need to fix. There is a link to the detailed webpage with instructions and detailed photos, and scans of the repair parts installation instructions. tinyurl.com The full address is : dl.dropbox.com tinyurl.com
The light comes on when the door is opened or if somebody walks into the garage, that part works fine but after being shut off the light will come on again at random.
There is no place that I can see to adjust anything on the opener. I have only found the on/off swith for it.
If my garage has metal studs (instead of wooden beams) how do I attach a beam to hang my new garage door opener from? They don't seem like they'd be strong enough for the opener (about 20 lbs.)
Unfortunately there is also sheetrock on the ceiling so I can't see where the metal studs start or stop and if there are any wooden studs available anywhere up there.
Thanks DoorDoc and everyone else!!!!!!
I'm moving into a new house this week, and the garage doesn't have a remote opener. The door is hung rather than being on a track. It's a solid wooden door and it sort of swings open.
Can I install an opener for this kind of door? Is there anything special I should know about?
It's a one-piece wooden tilt-up door.
I have an Allister ARD IIA garage door opener (about 15 years old) and one of two remotes went out. It uses a Craftsman remote, which I ordered (the exact same part number as the old remote). The question now is, how do I program the remote to open the garage door? The instructions with the remote say to press the orange "smart" button but this garage door opener doesn't have a button anywhere on it. There must be someway to program the remote as I have one Craftsman remote that works. Can anyone help with this or have one of these garage door openers?
