I bought a used garage door (excellent condition with all the parts). My garage door opening is only about 6' high and 7'10" wide. The garage door panels are 8' wide which I think is working find. For the height I'm only using 4 of the 5 panels one 21" panel and three 18" panels which equals to 6'3" which is about 3 inches above the height of the opening ( which may be ok also). My only problem that I see is that my left and right side railing (not the curve part at the top) needs to be cut to make it shorter so that when its attached to the upper railing (the curve section) it will mount propertly beneath the inside ceiling. Remember these railings were made for 5 panels and they are to tall for my ceiling, The 5th panel that I'm not using is 21".
I have another (full size) garage on the other end of my building that I'm using as a visual ad along with info I've ran across on the internet and I'm pretty much mechanically incline but I have never installed a garage door.
My question is.
Can I cut the side railing so that when the upper railing (curve section) is attached to it, the upper railing would be low enough to mount on the ceiling propertly or is this the wrong thing to do?

If I can cut it which end should I cut the bottom or the top part? It looks as if it would work either way but I want to make sure I'm not over looking any problems that I make have, also if you detect anything in my paragraph that I shouldn't do then let me know.
I know I would have to drill new holes if I cut it. Thank you very much for your help....

I am brainstorming new ideas each and everyday and this looks like the best one yet(last idea was Native American Bead Work). I know I have the skills I need to build the doors and do it right, but to be honest I have never actually built a garage door a day in my life. But it's AMERICA, right? Land of the Free, home of the Brave. I really want to do this. Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks everybody.

How much money does this cost per month to operate, if the garage door opener is open and shut 8 times a day?

I was told to clean the sensors to make sure dirt wasnt blocking transmission and i did it. I was told the sunlight could blanch the beam and to move the sensors back away from the door and that didnt work. When the door is closed the red light indicates it is receiving transmission however it occasionally flickers. When the door is open the red light goes off completely with occasional flickers. Could this mean I have bad sensors? The garage door opener is approx. 3 years old and has never closed during the day without a manual override. Thanks for you help!!!
If they are bad do I have to buy specific ones?
each sensor has a green light and the receiver has a red light when it receives the beam. when i shake the wires the green power light of the sender goes on and off, maybe the sender isnt getting enough power.

What would you do in this situation?

Im 15 and live in a family of 5, a bro, sister, mom, dad, and stuff like that, we live in a pretty nice house in south texas and all of our neighbors moved around use due to economy. well about a month ago a huge african family moved in behind use (their new to the states) and they have lots of children, aging from 5 to maybe 9? well eversince they moved in we have been having issues, my dad parks his truck out behind the alley to our garage and my mom parks her trans am in front of his truck, and we part our 2 other vehicles in the front, well these kids are getting on our nerves, when i work in our garage i open the garage door to let in cool air, and these kids will come onto our property and walk all over our lawn next to our garage and just stare at me like 10 feet away almost entering the garage, which is very irrateing and freaky, and i was outside one time and i seen them hopping all over the back of my dads truck and when i went out there they just stared at me and sat there, didnt bother to move, and today they blew the fuse, i seen them playing in our alley way, no big deal right? well i went inside my house and they went over to my moms trans am (and the alarms on those cars are sooo sensitive, even a sound of thunder will set them off) and opened the door and the alarm went off and when i went back outside, all 6 kids, gone, my moms car door was open, alarm blasting, and i went out there to shut it off, and i looked at their house and their window was open, which wasnt normal, i couldnt see in but i know they were watching me, and we also have a boat out there with no cover and they been playing inside of it as well, God only knows what they stole from our vehicles and boat! and my question was, What you you do? thanks

general contractor please help!!!!!!?

whats a good price for First, most importantly is my basement door. I don’t know how to explain it exactly but I think it needs a few shims and the frame needs to be re-secured to the house. Probably a new piece of molding around the door too. The outside of the basement door/frame/window needs to be sanded/primed/painted the same color as the rest of the house (I can get the paint).
The kitchen floor needs to be re-grouted. I know that’s a laborious job but I tried myself twice and it didn’t work. The kitchen is probably 8’x13’. Just a guess. Also needs a ¾” round or a 4” baseboard around part of the kitchen.
Garage door hinges have come off due to rusty old nails (some of which broke in the wood door). The garage is a 1 car but there are 2 doors that open toward you (think extra small barn doors). They are not automatic. I just want the holes drilled and the hinges reattached.
Fence: a section of the chain linked fence is broken. I figured I

How do you replace garage door springs?

I need to replace the springs above my garage door. I just need to know how to adjust the springs after I replace them.
